| Beauty firms market skin care for adults with acne
NEW YORK -- Acne isn't a problem that magically disappears when you turn 20. Even though it's thought of as a teen skin problem, many adults -- in fact, most adults -- suffer at least occasional outbreaks of acne. The dermatology and beauty industries have taken notice of those blemishes over the past few years and are increasing the number of adult-acne products they offer. The ingredients aren't much different from those in treatments aimed at teens, but manufacturers say adults are willing to spend more money even if they have fewer pimples. Clinique last fall launched its Acne Solutions line, a three-step system similar to its classic skin-care sets, but containing anti-acne ingredients. "In talking to our own consultants at the (retail) counter, mature customers complain of acne ...

THE proof is in the pudding. Zerene Pudding, to be exact. Hollywood hotties (far right) are hooked on the stuff - a gelatinous goo that's the brainchild of 25-year-old beauty entrepreneur Nicole Paxon. Paxon, daughter of HSN and Pax TV founder Bud Paxon, originally formulated Zerene Pudding and her makeup line, Nicole Paxon Cosmetics (at nicolepaxon.com), for people with severe skin issues like lupus, rashes and birthmarks. But now actresses from both the silver and small screens are using her line to get ready for their close-ups. Her quest for coverage started when she was diagnosed with lupus at 12. After chemotherapy and the extreme sun sensitivity and butterfly rashes associated with the disease, Paxon says she was on the hunt for the ideal concealer.

Belo's got a new man
MANILA, Philippines--Dr. Vicki Belo has a new man in her life. And he's her boss. Meet Enrique M. Soriano III, who took over the reins of the Belo Medical Group Inc., owner of seven Belo clinics in the metropolis, as group CEO. His entry was quite for a group owned by a celebrity, but Soriano's plans are not at all quiet. These include a possible public offering at the Singapore Stock Exchange where a couple of other Filipino firms are listed. In a one-on-one with the Philippine Daily Inquirer, Soriano says he has been affected by "proceduritis" the past months--creating systems and matrices for the 18-year-old Belo group which, despite its size, has remained in some ways a "mom-and-pop" type of operation because of Belo's hands-on management style.

Want to save the US economy? Spread the wealth and give workers a pay raise
"The bright new financial system, with all its talented participants, with all its rich rewards, has failed the test of the marketplace." --Former Federal Reserve Chairman Paul Volcker A specter is haunting Wall Street -- the specter of insolvency. One major player, Bear Stearns, has already gone under, and by the looks of it, another may be on the way. It's getting ugly out there. The so-called TED spread -- which measures the willingness of banks to lend to each other -- has begun to widen ominously, suggesting that the money markets believe another body will be floating to the surface any day now. The ongoing deleveraging of financial institutions and the persistent downgrading of assets has the Fed in a tizzy. Fed Chairman Ben Bernanke has backed himself into a corner by stretching the Fed's mandate to include anyone on Wall Street with a mailing address and a begging bowl.
GREEN GODDESS
Looking beautiful never felt so healthy. That's because beauty counters are going green from head to toe with eco- friendly concoctions that are not only safe for your skin but great for the planet, too. Even Hollywood is getting in on the act: Natural beauty Kate Hudson has joined forces with hair guru David Babaii, whose client list includes Angelina, Uma and Gwyneth, to create a line of hair products that are "tested on Kate, not on animals." Hudson helped choose the ingredients for Babaii for WildAid's Hydrating Shampoo and Hydrating Conditioner, like volcanic ash from the Vanuatu Islands in the South Pacific, which is said to add volume to the hair, to butter harvested from the Amazon, used for its hydrating properties. (Proceeds benefit WildAid, an eco-force working towards ending the illegal wildlife trade and save endangered species around the world.) Kiehl's introduced their antioxidant-rich Superbly Restorative body lotion and dry oil this month.

This isn't the way you wanted it to happen, but it happened anyway. Just like I knew it would," begins an open letter from veteran radio personality Tom Joyner to Tavis Smiley. It's the latest in ongoing drama that followed Joyner's announcement Friday that Smiley will end his twice-a-week commentaries on the syndicated morning show. When the news broke, folks speculated that he couldn't handle the backlash he's been getting from blacks over his criticism of Barack Obama. Although Smiley released a statement saying he was leaving to focus on future projects under his company, The Smiley Group, Inc., Joyner isn't buying it.
